Our rationale

During the last 30 years or so we have experienced something not previously known. This is the general denigration of men, the limiting of the role of men, the reduction in employment prospects for men, state support for lone motherhood, and the elimination of many men's rights, especially within the family.

The reasons for this are not entirely clear. What we know however is that :

• there has seen a massive increase in the representation of women's issues, due to the vast number of women's groups and organisations, while few exist for men;
• the media reflect this situation in dealing with women's issues, together with denigration of men in articles and advertisements;
• feminists have obtained positions of great influence within the Government and with law makers;
• Parliament have passed measures which are unjust to men;
• corruption to the written law, especially in the matrimonial area, including serious malpractices by solicitors, barristers and court welfare officers, has resulted in the removal of all rights men once held in marriage, over children, home, life savings and future income;
• significant changes, of an anti-male nature, to laws have been introduced, these often implemented through case law decisions by unaccountable judges rather than by Parliament in a democratic process.

These changes have been influenced in many cases directly by feminists, and particularly radical feminists, or those with feminist inclinations. The majority of the population have not been involved in these changes, and in many cases are unaware that they have taken place. So the radical feminists have obtained influence beyond that which their numbers would suggest they should have, and they have been immensely successful at obtaining their unjust and unreasonable objectives.

It has been as a response to this that various men's and father's groups have been established. It is not only in the UK but across all of the Western World that these groups have arisen. Look at our links pages, and you'll obtain an appreciation of the scale of this.

The founder of UKMM, Roger Witcomb, unfortunately died of cancer in 1997. Dr John Campion, founder of  The Cheltenham Group, now associated with UKMM, was invited and provided the eulogy at Roger's funeral in Cheltenham. The founder members have the utmost respect for Roger, and we attempt to preserve the rationale which Roger defined for the Movement.

Why has this situation come about and remained unchallenged ?

It is clear that men have not yet organised themselves to remedy this situation.We believe the reasons for this include the fact that most of these organisations do not comprehend the fundamental problems which men now face, nor do they understand the political position or measures which will need to be taken to restore men's equitable rights. Also, they have remained fragmented and divided on fundamental issues, and have even fought amongst themselves and even within well known organisations. This indicates that men as a body have not yet learned how to cope with the situation.

What we are about

Essentially we wish to protect the equitable rights of men

We invite all men and women to help us in the restoration of our decaying society.  As a brief indication of what we are about we wish to see :

• Fair deal divorce to prevent engineered no fault divorces and the forcing of men into poverty.
• Pensions for all men and women at 60 by the year 2000.
• Mens' officer in every university to council men who suffer feminist harassment. By University staff and to provide support in cases of false allegations of rape.
• 50% of primary school teachers to be men, at present boys are not showing the progress they did when primary schools were staffed equally by men and women.
• Fair treatment of men by the media and advertisers.
• Compensation for men falsely accused of rape or sexual harassment.
• The abolition of sexual apartheid such as women-only car park spaces, swimming leisure sessions and library tables.

• Fair representation of men's issues in Parliament and the Government.

What we have achieved

We have maintained a consistent and serious presence. We have studied the situation carefully, conducted a major survey into matrimonial and family law practices, and published the results. We have succeeded in building a modest publications list which outlines the present situation for men and explains some causes and remedies. We are regularly invited on to the media to debate men's issues. We have made representations to responsible authorities for remedy, such as our NAPO 'Anti-sexism' Policy campaign. These representations have usually up until now shown no result.. This lack of results, after perfectly rational and reasonable submissions and supported by evidence, only serves to emphasise the seriousness of the situation. We have studied International Human Rights codes and encouraged and monitored applications to ECHR, Strasbourg. We have made a major submission to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights over violations of the UN's International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and this has been referred to the UK Government. But we are beginning to gain acceptance on Government committees and in lobbying. Unlike some other groups such as Families Need Fathers, we wish to work with other organisations.
